Merry Christmas!

I was fortunate enough this year to have lots of visits and trips for Christmas! Despite the terrible winter weather, Ryan and I were able to visit all of our family and spend a fantastic time with all of them!

First, we celebrated Ryan's mom's birthday (which is on Christmas Eve) on the 23rd in Eldora at Ryan's grandparents' house. Then, we celebrated Christmas there on the 24th. We had a great time and also had the pleasure of seeing Ryan's Great-Aunt Jean who came to Iowa from Texas to celebrate Christmas. I bet she wished she was still in Texas with the weather we had!! We were happy to see her! :)

The night of Christmas Eve, we made the trip down to Bloomfield where we opened gifts at mom's, then we made the trek to Drakesville! We had so much fun! Ryan and I got a couple of games for Christmas that we played with family (we highly recommend Apples to Apples). Colton also got me the game Battle of the Sexes-- which proved that the girls dominate! ;)

The whole Proctor clan!

The next day we headed to Kirksville to visit Dad, where we played board games, watched movies, and caught up! It was a great wrap-up to all of our holiday festivities!

Then, we headed back the five hours to Omaha, making a stop along the way to visit Ryan's dad in Albia. Phew! Christmas is busy for us, but it was all worth it!

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!

THE END (of the semester)

FINALLY! After three all-nighters, tons of projects, and countless numbers of pages written... I am done with the semester! I got through my capstone class and the faculty presentation for my sociology major-- the most stressful occurrence of the entire semester-- but I did it! It feels good to only have one semester left, even though I have no idea what I am going to do for a job afterwards!

Our final project for my video production class was an admissions video for Drake. Here is what my production team came up with:

Now, let the Christmas season begin!

Wedding Dress Shopping

Today was round two of wedding dress shopping in Des Moines. I am proud to say that I found my dress!

It is supposed to be in between the end of January and the end of February-- I am so excited!!!! I have big plans to do a lot of wedding planning over my winter break after my life, aka: school, settles down a bit!

Pound for Pound

This is the culmination of all of my class' hard work in our video production class. We produced, shot, edited, and wrote a 30-minute television pilot featuring central Iowa wrestling.

I was on the production team for Ankeny High School. Below is a link to the show that you can watch in four parts:

Thanksgiving Break

I spent a great Thanksgiving Break with family.

On Thursday we spent the day at the Proctor Ranch eating great food and spending time with family.

On Friday we celebrated Thanksgiving with Ryan's family, getting stuffed for the second day in a row and playing games.

Finally, on Saturday, I did my first round of wedding dress shopping with Kait, Kylie, Mom and Grandma. I found several that I liked, but wasn't ready to make a decision. Here's one that I loved, but didn't end up making the final cut:

WICKED!

Yesterday my friends Samantha, Zach, Steve, and I went to the Wicked Lottery at the Civic Center in Des Moines in order to try and win tickets to the show. It was a long shot.... there were tons of people there all putting their names in for 20 tickets to be raffled off. Plus, you could only get two tickets if your name was drawn and there were four of us.

Lo and behold -- my name was called third! We had two tickets!! Then, near the end of the pack my friend Sam's name was called. We had won tickets for all of us to go!

We sat in the second row. The show was AMAZING!

Hot Air Balloon Ride!

For my birthday, Ryan got us a hot air balloon ride. Because of the weather, our ride got rescheduled several times. FInally, though, on Sept. 13th we were able to take our ride.

Neither of us had ever taken a hot air balloon ride before. It was a really cool experience!

We're goin' to the zoo!

Well, since Ryan's new to Omaha, we decided that we HAD to visit the Omaha Zoo as soon as possible! So that's what we did today!!

First, we went to a drive-thru zoo (no Zebra bites this time). It was really cool-- and with Ryan's new hybrid car we didn't use any gas on the journey! ;)

Then, we headed to the zoo! We thought the desert dome and rain forest dome were super cool! The zoo is awesome, one of the best I have ever been to!

Dramatic Encounter!

This week I spent a lot of my time doing my first assignment for my video production class: A dramatic encounter.

Here's the assignment: Shoot a dramatic interaction between two people. No dialogue. Time: 1:30 to 2 minutes.

And here is what I came up with:

Ryan's Moving Day

This weekend we moved Ryan (and Sulley) from Des Moines to Omaha. I spent the weekend helping him unpack all of his things and making his "house look like a home."

It's going to be a very different year for us. I just moved near campus at Drake in preparation for my last year at school, so I will be living in Des Moines until May. Throughout our relationship we've always been in the same city, so this new long distance situation will be quite different than what we're used to.

Ryan is really excited about starting his new job and I couldn't be happier for him!

I'm 21!

I celebrated my birthday with friends this weekend. It was a great way to end the summer and kick off my senior year of college!

They were great! They bought me TWO cakes and dressed me up like a princess before we headed out... I had the best time. My friends rock!

Round One of Engagement Photos

On Saturday Ryan and I met up with our photographer on Drake's campus to take a few engagement photos. We had originally planned on doing our pictures in the fall, but our photographer emailed me and let me know that he would love to do an extra session with us -- no extra charge-- before our "real" engagement session. So we did! I think the pictures turned out great, despite the humidity and my uncooperative hair! I thought that I would let you all know the website, sign-in, and password so whoever was interested could look at our photos. I will let you know after our next session so you can look at those, too!

For the first part of our session, Ryan and I decided to wear Drake shirts and take several photos on Drake's campus. Drake is really special to us because if we both wouldn't have gone to Drake we never would have met. After our Drake shoot, our photographer took us to downtown Des Moines and we got some amazing shots on some train tracks and by the DSM skyline.

Our photographer is awesome to work with, and had all of our photos up the day after our session! We are very excited for our more formal engagement photos in the fall.

The log-in information will be the same for our next session, any additional pictures he takes of us before the wedding, and for all of the wedding and reception pictures.

Update in a nutshell!

I have been terrible about updating my blog this summer, but here's the latest update on my life!  I got a job with ChildServe, a non-profit in Des Moines.  I will be working with children with special needs in the respite department.  I'm excited for the opportunity to work there from August until May when I will be moving to Omaha.

We also had a great time at the Martin family reunion on July 26th, seeing family we hadn't seen in a while.  Aunt Vonda and Uncle Jerry also generously let us go through some things in their basement, and we happily took them off their hands for our new apartment!

Ryan took the bar exam last week, and is super relieved to have it done and over with!  In about a month and a half he'll find out how he did.  I'm confident he passed with flying colors!

Ryan and I went to Omaha this past Friday to go apartment hunting.  We found a nice one-bedroom on the west side of Omaha for Ryan and Sulley (and then me) to live.  He'll move at the end of August.  We're excited to see our friends Shelley and Chris who live in Omaha much more often!

Ryan just started his new job yesterday, and will be working and training in Iowa until September.

We are having a pre-engagement photo session with our photographer, so I might have some photos to share here pretty soon.  In the meantime, here are a couple adorable pictures of my little nephew Tavian we got taken a few weeks ago.

A New Adventure

As you know, Ryan and I signed a lease on a townhouse a couple of months ago.  We were really excited to move in together, but things don't always work out as you plan!  That is very evident to us now.  A couple of weeks ago Ryan was offered a great position at Van Wall Energy, heading up their wind energy department in Nebraska as a Wind Energy Specialist.  Things don't always work out as we plan, and things tend to change, but this seems like it will be a great fit for him.  It was a hard decision to make, but in this economy, a job offer is a great thing to have, so he has accepted the position.

We are both very excited for his new opportunity, and for our future, but we're both also sad that he has to move to Omaha.  I will be staying at Drake to finish up my LAST YEAR of college.  I got myself an apartment right across the street from Drake with one of Ryan's friends from undergrad, Crystal, and potentially two other girls.  It's a nice four bedroom, two bathroom right by Drake.  No winter driving!  Yay!  Sulley will be Ryan's roommate, as I cannot have a pet in my new apartment.  I will move mid-August, just in time for school to start.  Ryan will also move around that same time.  Anyway, it will be hard to be away from each other, but it is only two hours away, and a great opportunity for him.  I am looking forward to hitting up the zoo after Ryan moves!  I hear Omaha is a pretty nice place.  I'm excited to see what the future holds for us!

Wedding planning is going pretty smoothly.  I think I am right on track.  Ryan and I actually picked out our wedding bands a couple of weeks ago.  Yes, we're very early on it, but we wanted to be able to space out our costs so that we can pay for everything throughout the next year instead of all at the end!  Ryan picked out a very contemporary band that I think will definitely fit his style, and I picked out a classic gold band with diamonds that will look great with my engagement ring!  As stressful as wedding planning can be, it is actually pretty fun!  It took us a long time to pick out our rings, but in the end I think we ended up with just what we wanted.  I'm glad Ryan picked out my engagement ring all by himself, because that would have been 10x as hard for me to pick!

This past weekend Ryan and I headed to Bloomfield for the good ole Davis County Fair!  We watched Tavian and mommy Kylie participate in the baby contest.  No wins for Tavian, but he is baby of the year in our minds! :)  We also checked out the 4-H building to see Colton's award-winning projects!  His photograph of Tavian's hands will be going to the state fair, and he also got one other project considered for the state fair.  All the rest of his projects (including a table made out of tree trunks and several baked goods) all received blue ribbons!

We also went to the Jamey Johnson concert on Saturday night.  What a great show!  We had 2nd and 3rd row seats, and he played for about 2 hours!  We really enjoyed it, and hope more great acts come to the DC fair in the future.

Sorry!

It's been too long since my last post... time for an update!  Ryan and I went to see fireworks at the Capitol and at a park near Jordan Creek for the Fourth of July.  Sulley enjoyed the fireworks, too!

I also thought I would post a picture of Tavian that I took when I was home a few weeks ago.  He's growing fast!

I have been able to spend time with friends since school has been out.  I went to Adventureland with a group of friends this past Sunday, and had a lot of fun!  Ryan and I have also booked our photographer, DJ, and a harpist for our wedding... things are coming together.  We're less than a year away now!  Crazy how time gets away from us.

I will be heading to the DC Fair this weekend for the Jamey Johnson concert and to spend some time with family.

I will have lots to update everyone on in the next couple of weeks, so I will be back posting again soon!

Ryan's Birthday

Ryan's 24th birthday was on Thursday.  I took him out to eat, and his friend Scott came to visit. We celebrated with his family on Sunday.  We went to Eldora to his grandparent's house to visit, eat, and open presents.

In other news, Ryan and I signed the lease on our new place!  We move in at the end of July. It's a really nice townhouse in Pleasant Hill.  We're really excited!  It's not the best picture, but here is a photo of our new home.

I am still on the job hunt, but I do have a couple of interviews next week.  Hopefully one of them will turn into a job!

End of Junior Year and Family Fun!

The semester is officially over and I am now a senior!  I have been on the search for a summer job.  Applications are submitted, now I am just waiting!  As of right now, I have been catching up with some friends and getting some things done I had been too busy for during the school year.

I got some pictures from Aunt Margie today from this past weekend.  After Ryan's graduation on Friday we headed to Bloomfield on Saturday for Sean's (Mark's son) graduation party.  We got several good pictures with the family, and I thought I would post them.

Ryan's Law School Graduation!

Ryan graduated from Drake Law School last night.  He's not quite done yet, though.  He still has to take the bar in July.  I'm proud of him, and I think he's relieved and excited!  Between finals, Colton's birthday, Ryan's graduation, Tavian's arrivial, and Ryan's birthday on the 21st, it has been a busy month for us!
